X-Men and Iron Man heading to Nicktoons

I know I’m a few months behind on this breaking news but, hey, I’m new here. To coincide with the upcoming movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Marvel has partnered up with Toonz Entertainment and First Serve International to produce 26 episodes of a brand new X-Men cartoon series that will be aired on Nicktoons in early 2009. Here’s the official promo:
“Wolverine and the X-Men”
The story begins as an explosive event shatters the lives of the X-Men and takes away their mentor, Professor X. The beaten heroes, including Beast, Storm, Cyclops and Nightcrawler, walk away from it all but then they are given a rare glimpse into the future, where they see a world in utter ruin…ruled by giant destructive robots. They discover the world has spiraled out of control because the X-Men have given up. So now the most legendary of all X-Men, Wolverine, must take the lead on the ultimate mission–to prevent the world’s destruction—while fending off enemies Magneto and The Brotherhood.
This looks like it has real potential. The character designs are sharp and accurately represent the team’s current costumes. It also looks like they are trying to capitalize on the success of the Astonishing X-Men comic book as the cast from that book is featured in the promo art (Cyclops, Wolverine, White Queen, Beast and Shadowcat) along with Storm and Nightcrawler.

Hot on the trail of the blockbuster feature film, Iron Man will be featured in a new animated series. This will be the third time that Shell Head will be featured in his own series, having already been featured in a segment of 1966’s The Marvel Superheroes and in Iron Man, part of the Marvel Action Hour in 1996.

Tony Stark, heir to a billion-dollar corporation, lives a life of luxury, free to pursue his chief interests—seeking extreme thrills, solving scientific mysteries and creating mind-boggling inventions. But everything goes horribly wrong when a tragic accident robs Tony of his father and nearly costs him his own life. Now dependent on his own impressive technology for survival and dedicated to battling corruption, Tony must reconcile the pressure of teenage life with the duties of a Super Hero. Inside his remarkable invention, Tony Stark is geared for high-speed flight, high-tech battles and high-octane adventure! He is Iron Man.
Like Wolverine and the X-Men, this series will also contain 26 episodes and will premiere on Nicktoons in early 2009. Iron Man: the Animated Series is produced by Marvel Entertainment and Method Films.
There is some speculation whether or not Tony Stark will be a teenager in the series. Marvel found success with the teen version of the X-Men in X-Men: Evolution and is currently getting good ratings with the teen version of Spider-Man in Spectacular Spider-Man so it wouldn’t surprise me if they try the same formula again. I hope it works.
